Androgen secretion and characteristics of testicular HCG binding in cryptorchid rats.

چکیده
Response of the cryptorchid testis to gonadotrophic stimulation was assessed by comparison of the androgen production capability in vivo and in vitro with that of the normal scrotal testis. Serum androgen concentrations in cryptorchid rats were similar to those in normal rats, and the incremental increase 60 min after 50 i.u. hCG (i.v.) was about 7-fold for both groups. Basal and hCG-stimulated androgen production in vitro was higher for abdominal testes (557 and 3286 ng/pair) than for scrotal tests (157 and 504 ng/pair). Specific binding of hCG by testicular homogenates was slightly higher (P < 0.05) for cryptorchid testes when expressed per unit weight, but Scatchard analysis indicated that although hCG binding affinities did not differ (Ka = 2 x 10(10) M-1), hCG binding capacity of cryptorchid testes was only 75 ng, compared to 219 ng for scrotal testes. These data indicate that a discrepancy exists between androgen production in vivo and in vitro by cryptorchid testes and that normal serum androgen concentrations are maintained in the presence of decreased numbers of testicular LH/hCG receptors.

Effect of uni- and bilateral cryptorchidism on testicular inhibin and testosterone secretion in rats.
The effect of uni- and bilateral cryptorchidism on testicular inhibin and testosterone secretion and their relationships to gonadotropins were studied in rats. Mature Wistar male rats weighing approximately 300 g were made either uni- or bilaterally cryptorchid. Testicular inhibin and testosterone content and plasma levels of LH and FSH were examined 2 weeks later. A similar remarkable decrease...

Objective- Release of free radicals and oxidants following increased temperature of testis in cryptorchidism, play an important role in the producing testicular damage. The present study investigated the role of vitamin C as an antioxidant in protecting the testis against damage in experimental unilateral cryptorchidism. متن کاملAndrogens in testicular venous blood in the rat, with special reference to puberal change in the secretory pattern.
A puberal change in the secretory pattern of androgen was investigated in the rat. Using immature and adult rats which received an acute human chorionic gonadotrophin(HCG) stimulation, androstenedione and testosterone were measured both in the testicular venous blood(TVB) and in the testis by means of gaschromatography after preliminary separation by paperchromatography. In contrast to the adul...
متن کاملEffects of Repeated HCG Administration on Serum Testosterone and Testicular Descent in Prepubertal Thoroughbred Colts With Cryptorchid Testicles
Administration of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) to prepubertal Thoroughbred colts results in significant increases in serum testosterone concentrations. Colts with cryptorchid testicles have a reduced response in testosterone concentration compared to colts with descended testicles. Treatment with HCG facilitates descent of inguinally located testicles. Author’s address: Large Animal Medic...
متن کاملMeasurement of immunoglobulin G levels in adult rat testicular interstitial fluid and serum.
Total immunoglobulin G (IgG) in rat testicular interstitial fluid and serum was measured by two-site enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, which displayed minimal cross-reactivity with IgA or IgM. Normal adult testicular fluid IgG concentrations (2.67 +/- 0.98 mg/ml) were found to be 65% of the levels found in serum. Disruption of seminiferous tubule function by experimental cryptorchidism had no ...
